Open campaign over; fifth phase of polling for 49 seats in six states and two Union Territories and 35 assembly seats to be held tomorrow 

NEW DELHI: The campaign for the fifth phase of polling tomorrow is over. Polling for 49 seats in six states and two Union Territories and 35 assembly seats in Odisha will be held tomorrow. 695 candidates, including Rahul Gandhi in Rae Bareli, are contesting for the Lok Sabha.

Voting will be held in 14 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh. Rahul Gandhi's second constituency, Rae Bareli, is important. In 2019, BJP had won 13 seats except Rae Bareli.

In Rahul's old constituency Amethi, sitting MP Smriti Irani of BJP will face Kishori Lal Sharma of Congress. Lucknow, where Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is contesting, and Kaiserganj, where Karan Bhushan Singh, son of ex-wrestling federation president Brijbhushan Saran Singh, who is facing sex abuse allegations, is contesting, are also crucial for the BJP.

Maharashtra will go to polls tomorrow in 13 seats, mostly in the city of Mumbai. Union Minister Piyush Goyal is contesting in Mumbai North and Shiv Sena's (Uddhav) Arvind Sawant is contesting in Mumbai South. Prominent lawyer Ujjwal Nikam, BJP candidate in Mumbai North Central, will face Varsha Gaikwad of Congress.

The prominent ones are LJP leader Chirag Paswan in Hajipur, BJP's former Union Minister Rajeev Pratap Rudy in Saran and Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Hooghly in Bengal where two celebrities are facing off is noteworthy. Trinamool's popular TV star Rachana Banerjee is taking on BJP's sitting MP Locket Chatterjee. In Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla, the battle is between National Conference leader Omar Abdullah and People's Conference's Sajjad Gani Lone. Voting will be held tomorrow in one seat in the Union Territory of Ladakh, three in Jharkhand and five in Odisha.
